One spoken conversation, up to thirty minutes. You will need your microphone.
First, the context
Seven quick questions about the negotiation, your numbers and your walk-away point. A new offer, a raise, a promotion, a change of position, a rate, a contract or a fee all work.
Then, the rehearsal
It starts when you press Continue, not before. The coach then switches roles and plays your counterpart, without going easy on you. A short spoken debrief follows, and your written summary is on screen at the end.
The words the coach will use
Ambitious — the number you open with, above what you expect to get.
Acceptable — the number you would sign today without resenting it.
Walk-away — the point below which you say no and mean it.
Your walk-away point should not be the same as your goal. If they are the same, you have left yourself no room to negotiate.
Plan B — what you actually do if they say no and do not move.
A number does not have to be an annual salary. A percentage increase, an hourly or day rate, a monthly figure or a total package all work.
